• March 6th,2006. New Orleans, Louisiana. Six months after hurricane Katrina devasted the Lower 9th Ward, recovery work, slow and sometimes grim, continues at what appears to be a snail's pace. Volunteer Chaplains from Victim Relief in Texas perform a simple ceremony over the remains of a resident of the Lower 9th Ward discovered in a house. The house had previously been searched and a body removed, however it appears the initial removal process missed some of the remains which were today placed in a plastic bag and taken away by the coroners office.

 • 29 August 2007. Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Grand children Chyana Hurst (4 yrs (l)) and Tyriq Burton (3 yrs) await cutting of a memorial cake inside Robert Lynn Green Sr's FEMA trailer at 1826 Tennessee Street in the Lower 9th Ward. His house was destroyed by the deluge when the levee breached just blocks from the steps. Robert lost his mother and another grand daughter at the house when they perished in the terrible flooding. He lost hold of his grand daughter in the swirling floods. She was drowned. His mother was not found for 4 months when her skeleton was discovered in what remained of his washed away house. Jason hopes to rebuild. Many residents are struggling to return to the still derelict and decimated Lower 9th Ward.
• 24 August 2006 - New Orleans - Louisiana. Lower 9th ward. Australian tourists and hurricane Katrina survivors Bud Hopes (33yrs - Brisbane) and Michelle Van Grinsven (22yrs- Sydney) return to the city almost a year after they were caught up in hurricane Katrina. Bud and Michelle were amongst the tourists evacuated to the Superdome during the storm. Bud emerged as the 'leader' of the tourist group of some 70 foreign tourists caught up in the hell that was the Superdome in the days after the storm last year. The two are shocked to discover the lack of action amidst the debris of the still ruined Lower 9th Ward.

Photographed is the area where a huge barge smashed through the original flood wall, where a tidal wave of water rushed through, devastating the area where so many people died.

His daughters' friend Renisha Menendez (11 yrs) retrieves an evacuation suitcase he packed for his daughter Ariana, but was never able to get out before the home was destroyed. They stand in the wreckage of what used to be Murph and Ariana's home at 1739 Jourdan Ave in the devastated Lower 9th Ward. The huge barge which smashed through the original flood wall came to rest in front of their house, where a tidal wave of water rushed through, devastating the area where so many people died. Four of Arthur's neighbours perished in the storm. Arthur was in his home when the levee breached, he claims the night of the 28th August, 2005, the night before Hurricane Katrina made landfall. Arthur smashed his way out of his roof and swam to a neighbors house where he remained for 3 days awaiting rescue. Arthur can not go into details because of a pending lawsuit. He appears in the Spike Lee movie about the storm.

Almost totally destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, this is where actor Brad Pitt envisioned 'Make it Right,' inviting architects' from all over the world to submit plans to help rebuild the Lower 9th ward. The 'Pink Project' in association with Graft architects of Los Angeles placed pink structures throughout the neighbourhood to help draw attention to the plight of the area. The 'houses' are lit at night using solar energy stored during the day. Over 1,000 mini solar lights are scattered on the ground, representing the approximate 1,600 victims of Hurricane Katrina.
• March 8th, 2006. New Orleans, Louisiana. Six months after hurricane Katrina devasted the Lower 9th Ward, recovery work begins with the clearing of roads and debris by private contractors. And still, six months after hurricane Katrina, many roads remain blocked by houses and their contents spilled into the roads where they came to rest as the water swept through.
A clock lies amidst the rubble of someone's former living room on North Tonti Street. The clock, stopped at ten minutes to ten on the morning hurricane Katrina smashed the house from its foundations moving it halfway into the street.
