Staff are running at full speed ahead to have floats, props and preparations in place for Mardi Gras Krewes to roll in the next few weeks as Mardi Gras descends on the ravaged city of New Orleans. Laughing in the face of adversity. Business owner Blaine Kern shares a joke with artist Charles Bendzans as he decorates the god of thunder for Orpheus parade float. Mr Kern aims to have all floats ready for the parades, despite the adverse affects of hurricane Katrina.

Matt McCarthy and his daughter put up lights in their devastated uptown street. McCarthy, a Vietnam veteran who lost all his precious 8mm films and slides from his time as a soldier in the late 60's puts up Christmas lights with his daughter Eileen. McCarthy has had a rough 12 months. He lost a kidney, his wife died of cancer and he lost everything in his home. He and his daughter, the only residents to return to State St Drive in what was flooded 'uptown' put lights on the dead tree in their front yard. <br />

 A camper van, the new home of Pijer Day sits outside what was once her home in the flood ravaged Mid City neighbourhood. Pijer erected a tree with a miniature village on the corner of the street to cheer the four residents who have returned to the neighbourhood. All lights powered by generator.<br />

Al Copeland, controversial wealthy local businessman and owner of several 'Copeland's' restaurants in the city puts on his famous light display at his house to the west of the city. Copeland insisted on having the show to help cheer the childen of the city, many of whom will have come to the display for years.<br />
