With crime beginning to pick up as people return to the city following the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, 300 Louisiana National Guardsmen returned to New Orleans to supplement local police and provide increased cover and back up in parts of the city that remain derelict and thinly populated since the devastating floods. Following the sounds of gunshots, MP's move on foot patrol through the streets looking for the possible source. Criminals will sometimes fire shots to distract patrols in one area whilst they commit crimes somewhere else nearby.

MP's stop to question a suspicious man who turn out to be drunk. He insists on lifting his shirt to show the MP's an unhealed gunshot wound, along with what they suspect to be a gaping wound from a self removed catheter bag. The man needs serious medical attention but refuses to accept an offer of assistance and stumbles away into the night.

 • 17 June, 2006. New Orleans, Louisiana. Housing problems. Protesters, former public housing residents and supporters march along St Charles Ave to the private gated community of Audubon Place to protest The Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) plan to demolish public housing, refusing residents the right to return despite valid leases. The housing authority proposes to replace crime riddled, poorer projects with a mix of private and public housing created by private contractors. Former residents argue that HANO is part of a greater city plot to keep poor, predominantly African Americans from returning home.

Katrina 8 years later. In a tale of two cities, the hardest hit neighbourhoods struggle to revitalize and return. Brad Pitt's 'Make it Right Foundation' enjoys limited success with ecologically sustainable housing rebuilds in a handful of city blocks. A few residents have also rebuilt their properties. Yet many half finished or blighted properties and vacant overgrown lots remain dotted throughout the landscape with limited new construction projects. Residents who have returned complain of limited services, infrequent police patrols, high crime rates, rampant mosquitos and uncontrolled vermin.
