Girls L/R Cazell Monroe (6 yrs) and her sister Tayzell (3yrs) take up early activism at the C3/Hands off Iberville coalition march which travels almost 6 miles from the devastated Lower Ninth Ward to downtown New Orleans in an alternative protest to the Mayor's officially sanctioned celebrations marking Martin Luther King Jr day. The protest remembered those who perished and claims to stand up for the rights of displaced, primarily african americans.<br />

Protesters, former public housing residents and supporters march along St Charles Ave to the private gated community of Audubon Place to protest The Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) plan to demolish public housing, refusing residents the right to return despite valid leases. The housing authority proposes to replace crime riddled, poorer projects with a mix of private and public housing created by private contractors. Former residents argue that HANO is part of a greater city plot to keep poor, predominantly African Americans from returning home.

  • 19 June, 2006. New Orleans, Louisiana. Housing problems. Keep Out! Saint Bernard Housing complex. The eerily deserted 1,300 unit housing project was flooded in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. HANO, The Housing Authority of New Orleans has vowed to demolish the public housing, once riddled with crime and poverty. The housing authority proposes a mix of private and public housing created by private contractors. Former residents, fenced out with barbed wire argue that HANO is part of a greater city plot to keep poor, predominantly African Americans from returning home. The Complex is now fenced off and residents need to make an appointment at least 72 hours in advance to be permitted back to collect personal belongings.

Having not gone through the proper channels and having simply turned up unannounced, an elderly lady is refused access to the busses as exhausted former residents of the Superdome 'shelter of last resort' wade through flood water to get to the first busses evacuating people from New Orleans to destinations unknown.<br />

Genelle Guzman-McMillan - nee Genelle Guzman. Aftermath of 9/11 Terrorist attack on World Trade Centre.<br />
Last known survivor.<br />
Gentle Guzman has a bandage applied to her ankle by her boyfriend Roger McMillan at Bellevue hospital as she recovers from being trapped in the rubble of the World Trade Centers debris. Gentle was trapped for 27 hours, pinned by heavy debris after the buildings collapsed around her killing her work colleagues. By some miracle Genelle attributes to God she was spared. Gentle was found by a German Shepherd rescue dog named Trakr and his handler James Symington.<br />
Genelle was told she would never recover from the crushing injuries to her legs, however she has since overcome the odds and went on to marry her sweetheart Roger McMillan who cared for in hospital throughout her ordeal.  <br />

Harris appeared for the annual 'Instruments A Comin' spectacle, hosted by the Tipitina's Foundation, a charity set up in the city to stimulate the recovery of New Orleans musical heritage.<br />
