Groups of around 100 Christian affiliated church kids of predominantly high school age come from all across the USA to the city for a 5 day week where they put in an average of 2,080 hours of community service as they volunteer to gut, clean and rebuild houses for residents in Katrina ravaged parts of New Orleans. The kids and their carers live in an old church Uptown where they sleep in segregated dormitories and all pitch in in a communal atmosphere. Volunteer Carmen Arze (25yrs) of Bathesda MD fills out 'Care Cards,' notes full of praise and uplifting comments for fellow group members which are given to each member at the end of their stay. GWF, formed in 1976, based in Loveland, Colorado organises religious missions volunteering in disaster recovery at no charge to residents. The city would not be rebuilt without their help. They are a Godsend to those they help and are greatly appreciated for all that they do for those they help.
