01 September 2012. Braithwaite, Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, USA.
Pump operator Larry J Ducote (rt) must leave to get blood pressure medication as he, Nicholas Cali (mid) and Captain Russell Gelvin of the Lake Borgne Levee District operate the neighbouring parish's Braitwaite pumping station which was allegedly overrun as pump operators fled the deluge. Yet the St Bernard parish employees kicked in the door and discovered the pumping station had never been switched on and worked perfectly. Along with breaching the levees to allow the town of Braitwaite to drain, the pumping station is helping to remove flood water from the town. Braitwaite was submerged during hurricane Isaac.
