170 images29aug09-Hurricane Katrina 4th memorial The 4th anniversary for Hurricane Katrina is solemly remembered in the Lower 9th Ward following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Pockets of rebuilding and rebirth exist, mainly thanks to Hollywood celebrity Brad Pitt's make it Right Foundation. Dignitaries arrived to make speeches including, Mayor Ray C Nagin, his wife Seletha Nagin, Thomas Pepper, director of Common Ground, Tom Darden, Executive Director of Make it Right, Congressman Joseph Anh Coa, Council President Arnie Fielkow, Councilwoman Cynthia Willard Lewis, Congressman Charlie Melancon and his wife Peachy Clark, Tony Russell, head of FEMA, Councilman James Carter and State Representative Cedric Richmond and councilwoman jackie Clarkson amongst others. Architects toured the houses they were responsible for designing for Make it Right. Meanwhile block after block has been left to nature to reclaim amidst the abandoned lots and streets of the still largely derelict area.
