Custer's last stand. Montana. Battlefield of Little Big Horn national monument. General George Armstrong Custer's marker indicates where his body was found following his death on June 25th, 1876. His grave marker is the only one with a black face. He and all his 210 cavalrymen of the 7th U.S. Cavalry were slaughtered by an estimated 2,000 Native American Indians led by Chief Crazy Horse following raids by the cavalry on their villages.
