29 June, 2006. New Orleans, Louisiana. Finding Faith. Faith Figueroa. After a ten month (to the day) search, on a miraculous afternoon in the city, I was lead by a near neighbour to the home of the Figueroas'. In a battered part of town, close to the railway tracks that had been flooded along with the entire neighbourhood on the day hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, Miriam Figueroa has returned to town with her three children. Faith, (1 yrs), Anfernya (5yrs) and Jacquelyn (13 yrs). Faith Figueroa's face appeared on the cover of Newsweek on September 19th, 2005. Miriam and her daughters were evacuated to the Superdome. They escaped and went to the convention center, only to return to the Superdome where they evacuated to the Astrodome in Houston. Miriam's sister rescued them from the Astrodome and the family flew to New York where Miriam stayed with her inlaws until May 2006, when she returned to her home, the same apartment that she evacuated from, now recently repaired by her landlord.
