March 6th,2006. New Orleans, Louisiana. Six months after hurricane Katrina devasted the Lower 9th Ward, recovery work, slow and sometimes grim, continues at what appears to be a snail's pace. Piles of rubble and demolished cars remain in the wreckage. Members of the New Orleans Fire Department survey the area, taking care not to fall down the sewage manhole, one of the many hazards of the area.
