11th Feb, 2006. New Orleans, Louisiana. After a horse collapsed early in the parade, members of the crowd picked up the harness for the float and replaced the horse, pulling the float many miles through the streets. Mardi Gras begins with the traditional walking parade of Krewe du Vieux. Starting in the Faubourg Marigny and winding its way through the French Quarter, thousands of people lined the streets to enjoy one of the things New Orleans does best. A great street party was had by all who attended. Satire abounded in the costumes, poking fun at government and FEMA response to Hurricane Katrina.
